MARTINSVILLE, Va. — August 11, 2026 — West Piedmont Higher Education Center (the Center) is proud to announce that its Testing Center has earned Test Center Certification (TCC) from the National College Testing Association (NCTA), recognizing the Center’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and quality in the administration of testing services.
NCTA’s Test Center Certification is designed to recognize testing centers that demonstrate adherence to NCTA’s Professional Standards and Guidelines and are committed to providing a high-quality testing experience. The certification process includes a comprehensive review of a center’s policies, procedures, operations, training, testing environment, and other aspects of test administration.
“Achieving the NCTA Test Center Certification is an exciting accomplishment for West Piedmont Higher Education Center and an important step forward for our Testing Center,” said Joe Sumner, Executive Director of West Piedmont Higher Education Center. “This certification demonstrates our commitment to providing students, professionals, and community members with a secure, professional, and high-quality testing environment. We are proud to offer this level of service right here in Southern Virginia.”
The certification represents the culmination of significant work by the Center’s staff and the King Hall & Testing Center Coordinator, Stacey Davis, who led the certification process and worked to ensure the Center met NCTA’s standards.
“This was a major undertaking, but it was also a great opportunity to take a close look at our processes and make sure we are providing the best possible experience for every person who comes through our Testing Center,” said Davis. “I’m incredibly proud of the work that went into earning this certification and excited about what it means for the future of testing services at the Center.”
NCTA is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting professionalism and quality in testing services and programs. Its standards serve as a model for test centers administering a wide range of examinations, including standardized tests, certification exams, distance-learning exams, and other computer- and paper-based assessments.
With the new certification, West Piedmont Higher Education Center joins more than 200 testing centers across the United States and Canada that have earned NCTA Test Center Certification since the program began in 2010. Certification is valid for five years.
The Center provides a convenient, professional testing environment for individuals pursuing education, professional credentials, certifications, and other testing opportunities. The Center currently offers testing through several providers, including CLEP®, Praxis®, and Pearson, which offers NREMT, GED, PTCB, and other exams.
“Expanding access to quality testing services is an important part of the Center’s mission,” said Sumner. “Whether someone is working toward a degree, earning a professional credential, or taking an exam required for their career, we want them to know they have a trusted testing resource right here in our community.”
