NEW COLLEGE INSTITUTE AND PIEDMONT REGIONAL CRIMINIAL JUSTICE TRANING ACADEMY EXPAND IMMERSIVE DE-ESCALATION TRAINING

Martinsville, VA – New College Institute (NCI) is pleased to announce that it has expanded the partnership with the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy (PRCJTA) to offer Immersive De-Escalation Training.

NCI’s Baldwin Building is home to PRCJTA’s MILO Range Theater simulator, which gives recruits a fully immersive and realistic training environment with its 180° field of view. Because of its size, recruits interact from all directions, allowing them to respond to multiple threats and apply proper tactics simultaneously. With just the click of a button from the instructor’s computer, each scenario can be played out in multiple different ways depending on the recruit’s responses.

“We have been so proud to home this simulator and watch the PRCJTA recruits complete their training, attend graduation in our lecture hall, and enter into their careers,” states NCI Executive Director Joe Sumner, “and we couldn’t be more excited to expand our partnership by offering this training to more organizations around the region, including those who are already serving in a career in law enforcement.”

NCI and PRCJTA are now opening this training up to all law enforcement agencies and even outside organizations – such as school systems – who are interested in de-escalation training. For just $100 per trainee, groups of 4-10 trainees can participate in a four-hour training course where they will receive an overview of the scenario, receive hands-on training, participate in simulation exercises, and debrief what they’ve learned. This simulator offers real-life training scenarios and provides the option to film and create your own scenarios.

“All law enforcement and even other organizations can benefit from this training,” says PRCJTA Executive Director Ben Rea,” There are many scenarios to choose from already in the system, and we can create personalized scenarios for organizations who need particular training in a specific facility.”
