New College Institute (NCI), in partnership with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM), will host a free, full-day Active Shooter Exercise Development Workshop on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at NCI’s campus located at 191 Fayette Street, Martinsville, VA.
This hands-on Train-the-Trainer course, provided by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX), is designed to address the increasing need for community-based emergency preparedness. Participants will gain the knowledge and skills necessary to design and lead active shooter tabletop exercises using five ready-to-deliver templates. The workshop will culminate with the live facilitation of one full scenario in the afternoon session.
The course is ideal for public safety professionals, educators, emergency planners, and community leaders aiming to strengthen their response capabilities.
Attendees will receive 0.8 CEUs (IACET), and law enforcement personnel will be eligible for additional CEUs through the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy (PRCJTA).
The workshop is free, but registration is required. To register, visit https://wphed.org/event/active-shooter-workshop/.
